James Madden started Scintilla in 2017 after years of working in the industry as a sommelier. With experience in vintages from as near as the Mornington Peninsula and as far afield as Languedoc, James along with his partner Sam made the decision to uproot their lives in Melbourne and take up some plots of vines in the Adelaide Hills.
Since 2017 James has had years to experiment and refine his processes of farming and vinification. Throughout this all, he's remained unwavering in his commitment to staunchly minimal intervention wine-making; sourcing only (uncertified) organic/ biodynamic fruit, with no fining, filtering or sulphur used.
We can taste the refinement year on year. Madden makes clean, delicious wines. These are natural wines that will satisfy even those who usually baulk at the term.
